Delete your Derny account and data

The short version: In the Derny app on iPhone or Android, go to Settings → About → Delete account. If you can no longer use the app, email [email protected] from the address you signed in with, or tell us the email on your account. Deleting removes your account and your personal data. The rides you recorded are kept to help us improve Derny, but without your name, email, account or install identifier, or device names, so we cannot connect them back to you.

Delete in the app

1. Open Derny on your iPhone or Android device.
2. Go to Settings → About → Delete account.
3. Type the confirmation the app asks for, then delete.

This works whether or not you ever created an account. If you only used Derny without signing in, the same place offers Delete my data, with the same effect on the data that install uploaded. When deletion finishes, the app also erases everything it stored on that device and returns to guest mode, as if freshly installed.

Request deletion without the app

If you have uninstalled Derny or no longer have the device, email [email protected] with the subject “Delete my Derny account”, sent from the email address of the account you want deleted so we can match your request to it. If you cannot send from that address (for example, you signed in with Apple and chose Hide My Email), tell us the email on your account in your message. We will delete the account and its data as described below within a reasonable period and reply to confirm.

An install that never signed in has no email address on record, so we have no way to match an emailed request to it. For those installs, deletion is in the app only.

What is deleted

• Your account: your email address, your name, and your Apple, Google or email sign-in.
• Your profile: date of birth, weight, heart-rate values, FTP and the other details you entered.
• Your Strava connection: we revoke Derny’s access with Strava, then delete the tokens.
• Access you granted to AI assistants or other connected apps.
• The workouts you created.
• Everything Derny stored on the device you delete from.

What is kept, without your identity

The rides you recorded are kept, without your identity, as ride data we use only to improve Derny: the power, heart-rate, cadence, speed and treadmill-belt measurements, the structure of the workout, whether it was a bike or treadmill session, and the results of adaptive workouts. Before a ride is kept, we remove what would tie it to you or to your other rides:

• no account or install identifier, and no replacement identifier that would join your rides together;
• no names of your trainer, treadmill or heart-rate monitor, which often carry a person’s name;
• nothing you typed, such as workout names or notes;
• no Strava ids;
• only the date of the ride, not the time you started it;
• your profile (age, weight, FTP, heart-rate settings and max auto speed) only as broad ranges.

The ride’s own recorded measurements, and the targets and adjustments Derny made during it, are kept as recorded, so they can still hint approximately at some profile values; a heart-rate reading, for example, says something about your heart-rate range.

After that, we have no way to connect a kept ride back to your account, so we cannot find or remove it on request later. The measurements themselves are kept as recorded, so a ride you also shared publicly elsewhere, such as on Strava, could in principle be matched by someone comparing the two. Kept rides may be moved into our anonymous ride store some time after your account is deleted rather than immediately; until then they are held only for that move. Rides you deleted in the app before deleting your account are not kept.

What deletion does not reach

• After deletion, a copy of your rides and profile may remain in your own phone backup (iCloud or device backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android) and could be restored onto a reinstalled app or a new phone. Derny does not control those backups; delete them there if you want them gone. A restored copy is not sent back to us while you stay signed out, but if you sign in again, or if the restored app was never signed in and starts a new anonymous beta session, restored rides may be uploaded again.
• Rides Derny already uploaded to Strava stay on Strava; delete them there.
• Workouts saved to Apple Health or Health Connect stay there, under your control in those apps.
• If you also asked for a beta invite on our website, that email address is kept separately; write to us and we will delete it too.
